About Me
Hi, I’m Vincent 👋
I got excited about iOS development ever since my dad got his iPhone 3G. I still remember the wow moment after I moved the unlock slider for the first time.
As a result, I soon became very keen to learn how to develop apps myself - but I was in school back then, didn’t really know how to code at all. So I self-taught myself Objective-C as my first ever programming language, though I didn’t really know what I was doing.
Through the years, I studied CS in my hometown Hamburg, Germany, started working as a working student app developer at an agency called For Sale where I built apps for multiple companies including Liebherr Appliances - and eventually as a full-time iOS developer for different companies in Germany, including the ParshipMeet Group, Volkswagen / Audi and FREENOW. At the moment, I’m working in a super fun position as a Senior iOS Developer at a startup in the event industry called Reydix. If you want to learn more, you can find my CV here - I’ve created it using SwiftUI.
Even though I started iOS development in the times of Objective-C, UIKit and manual reference counting, I hardly do any of that any more today. I fell in love with Swift pretty fast, and today I’m building the majority of apps with Swift & SwiftUI.
In 2023, I also started co-organizing the Hamburg Apple developer community meetup CocoaHeads HH, where I got to know many talented and inspiring people.
If you’ve ever touched Apple’s latest tools and frameworks throughout the recent years, you might have noticed that they come with their very own challenges. While looking lightweight and simple at first sight, they hide a lot of complexity, and you have to know a lot of implicit things between the lines to ace modern native iOS app development. Additionally, Swift itself is becoming more and more complex and, in my personal opinion, mastering modern Swift development can be very confusing and challenging.
In this blog, I’m planning to share key learnings I made, recommending books or articles I enjoyed and trying to help you keep your sanity in the modern days of Apple development.
